This clay sculpture is a masterpiece of crafted by Oaxacan Artist, Vilma Velasco Vasquez. Vilma is daughter of the famous and multi awarded Mexican folk Artist Enedina Vasquez. Both live in Atzompa, a town well known for the quality of its pottery with natural and glazed clay figures.
The piece depicts Virgin Mary carrying baby Jesus, both wearing crowns and surrounded by cherubs and flowers. Their faces are exquisite and the virgin's hair dress is remarkable.
